On PowerMud, we have implemented several 'classic' races to chose from, but the number of player character races is always expanding. Below is a list of the races that are currently available
Advantages : None
Disadvantages : None
Description :
Humans normally grow to be six foot tall. They are average in all areas of adventuring gaining neither special abilities nor losing any abilities. They are the epitome of the status quo. Living the shortest of most races, humans have an intense lust for power and notoriety.
Advantages : Above Average Intelligence and Dexterity
Disadvantages : Below Average Strength and Constitution
Resistances : Enchant (Extremely High), Illusion (Medium)
Description :
Elves tend to be somewhat slimmer and shorter than normal
humans. Their features are finely chiseled and delicate.
Although elves appear rather delicate, as a race they are
quite fleet of foot and strong-minded. Elves are not fond
of ships or mines, but they do enjoy growing things and
gazing at the open sky. Elves tend to stick with their
own kind, preferring to distance themselves from humans.
Elves have little love for dwarves and despise the evil
denizens of the world. Generally speaking, elves are the
embodiment of goodness.
Advantages : Above Average Wisdom
Disadvantages : Below Average Charisma
Resistances : Enchant (High), Illusion (Low)
Description :
Half-elves are the most common of mixed-race beings. Half-elves are usually much like their elven parent in appearance. They are handsome folk, with the good features of each of their races. Half-elves mingle freely with either race, being only slightly smaller than the average human. In general, a half-elf has the curiosity, inventiveness, and ambition of his or her human ancestors and the refined senses, love of nature, and artistic tastes of his or her elven ancestors. The reactions of humans and elves to half-elves range from intrigued fascination to outright bigotry and hatred.
Advantages : Above Average Intelligence and Dexterity
Disadvantages : Below Average Strength and Constitution
Resistances : Enchant (Extremely High), Illusion (Low)
Description :
Being close relatives of surface elves, drow have the
similar angular features and exotic looks. As a whole,
the drow race is purely evil, selfishly putting themselves
in front of everything else in terms of importance. A
swift knife in the back of a rival is not beneath them,
and is even applauded by their principal goddess, Loth.
Drow are slightly shorter and slimmer than humans and
have stark-white hair, usually worn long. As drow are
masters of the darkness, they have no trouble traversing
through terrain without the use of light. Seeing
themselves as the supreme race, drow hold contempt for
all of the other races excluding elves, having a special
hatred for them. Seeing elves as the ultimate enemy,
drow usually torture and kill them on sight. As elves are
the embodiment of good, drow are the same of evil.
This race is for Experienced PowerMud players ONLY.
Advantages : Above Average Intelligence
Disadvantages : Below Average Strength and Wisdom
Resistances : Enchant (Very High), Illusion (Very High)
Description :
Kin to dwarves, gnomes are noticeably smaller than their
distant cousins. Gnomes, as they proudly and loudly
maintain, are less rotund than dwarves. Their noses,
however, are significantly larger. Most gnomes have dark
tan or brown skin and white hair. Gnomes have a great
love of living things and finely wrought items, particularly
gems and jewelry. Gnomes love all sorts of precious stones
and are masters of gem polishing and cutting. Being highly
inquisitive, gnomes make excellent tinkers.
Advantages : Above Average Strength and Constitution
Disadvantages : Below Average Intelligence and Charisma
Resistances : Enchant (High), Illusion (Low), Poison (Medium)
Description :
Dwarves are short, stocky fellows, easily identified
by their size and shape. Dwarves average 4 to 4.5 feet
tall. They have ruddy cheeks, dark eyes, and dark hair.
As a race, dwarves tend to be dour and taciturn. They
are given to hard work and care little for most types of
humor. Dwarves enjoy drink of any kind (excluding wine).
A dwarf's chief love, however, is precious metals,
particularly gold. Due to a dwarf's sturdy build and
strong constitution, they make superb warriors. As a
general rule, dwarves are not overly fond of elves, and
have a fierce hatred for orcs and goblins.
Advantages : Above Average Strength and Constitution
Disadvantages : Below Average Intelligence and Charisma
Resistances : Enchant (Extremely High), Illusion (Medium), Poison (Medium)
Description :
Duergar are closely related to surface dwarves, having
their same stocky build. As the similarities between
duergar and their cousins exist in appearance, that
similarity just about stops there. Duergar tend to be
irrational and masters of bad judgment, existing in an
half-mad state. A duergar's eyes are generally dark, but
in the darkness of their underground tunnels, their eyes
get alarmingly large, with their pupils growing to cover
almost the entire visible eye. Sometimes forming
alliances with drow, duergar are very evil and do things
to further their own ambitions for power and riches.

Advantages : Above Average Dexterity and Charisma
Disadvantages : Below Average Strength and Wisdom
Description :
Halflings are short, generally plump people, very much
like small humans. Their faces are quite round and
broad and often quite florid. Halfling hair is
typically curly and the tops of their feet are covered
with coarse hair. Halflings are sturdy and industrious,
mostly being quiet and peaceful. Due to their high
dexterity, halflings find that picking locks as well
as pockets, and also hiding quite efficiently, is not
even a challenge.
Advantages : Above Average Strength and Constitution
Disadvantages : Below Average Intelligence and Charisma
Description :
A common mixed-race being, half-orcs are the product of
a liaison between a human and orc. If a being has more
orcan ancestors than human, that being is considered an
orc. If a being has even one orcan ancestor among his or
her other human ancestors, the being is considered a
half-orc. Generally stronger than most humans, half-orcs
find themselves in a sticky situation. Although similar
to humans in appearance, they almost always have the
distinctive snout-like nose. Most humans look upon half-orcs
with disgust, thinking them as akin to pigs. For this
reason, half-orcs are mostly outcasts, not accepted by
either of their races.
Advantages : Exceptionally High Strength and Constitution
Disadvantages : Exceptionally Low Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma, below average Dexterity
Description :
Half-Ogres live a rough existence, usually being shunned
by their Human counterparts and normally being physically
abused or even killed by full Ogres. Typically produced
by a brutal union of a male Ogre and female Human, the
Half-ogre's life is never easy. They tend to keep to
themselves most of the time, but normally tend toward
evil tendencies. When it comes to brute Strength and
an iron Constitution, Half-ogres are hard to match.
Advantages : Exceptionally High Strength, Above Average Constitution
Disadvantages : Very Low Wisdom and Charisma
Description :
Minotaurs are generally a sea-faring race, as they prefer the
open air of the oceans. Minotaurs can best be described as
a cross between a human and a bull (cow). Their heads are the
heads of a bull, while all other parts of their body resemble
a human's body (although well-muscled). Minotaurs do not
normally wear much clothing or wear shoes or boots. Quick
to anger, a Minotaur can be a fierce opponent.

Advantages : Above Average Intelligencen
Disadvantages : Below Average Charisma

Description :
Svirfneblin are also known as Deep Gnomes, as they are cousin
of the surfaces Gnome race. Living in the UnderDark, the
Svirfneblin have gray eyes and are usually taller and more
muscular to their surface cousins. Svirfneblin are deeply
attuned to the 'earth', that is they have a deep affinity
for the rocks and tunnels of the UnderDark. The Deep Gnomes
are very good at Mining, and most have Illusionist abilities.
